From 2001 to 2007, Eleanor was Head of the Centre for New Media Arts (including the former Australian Centre for the Arts and Technology) at the Australian National University. Under her direction the Centre experienced major expansion and incorporated her unique vision of new media and a cross-disciplinary approach. The Centre created an important media arts community, particularly with its yearly DUST Performance events at the National Museum of Australia as well as partnerships with other national and international arts organisations.

Eleanor led the media arts curriculum design of the Centre, enhancing the research direction and creating a choice of graduate and undergraduate programs and courses. Her academic supervison and teaching spans across higher research, postgraduate coursework and undergraduate programs, including Convenor roles for the Research program, BA Digital Arts and BA New Media Arts.
