In 2001 Eleanor was appointed Head of the the Australian Centre for the Arts and Technology at the Australian National University. In the same year,  the Bachelor of Arts (Digital Arts) program was created to reflect the need for an undergraduate degree along with a new look to the graduate coursework programs. Under Eleanor’s direction within three years,  the Centre grew from a small scale enterprise into the successful Centre for New Media Arts, established 2004,

The Australian Centre for the Arts & Technology was established in late 1989 as a Centre in the Canberra Institute of the Arts, later known as the National Institute of the Arts. The Centre was the first of its type in Australia, with links to similar centres around the world. Its aim was to provide a unique environment for the study, research and artistic use of computers and its focus on multidisciplinary education of composers and visual artists interested in using new technologies as expressive tools. The Australian Centre for the Arts & Technology was part of the National Institute of the Arts at the National University, together with the School of Art and the School of Music. The general philosophy of ACAT remained with the Centre, through to its transformation into the Centre of New Media Arts.
